On Saturday the 9th of July, The Airport in Stara Zagora will play host to a 'first of its kind' event for the Centre of Bulgaria. A unique blend of Heavy Metal Rock and Aerial displays promises to be an occasion not to be missed.
Organising this extraordinary spectacle is Stara Zagora company Genesis Events, led by English expat Shaun Fetzer. He is keen to point out, "This is an event for rock fans by rock fans and by aero plane enthusiasts for aero plane enthusiasts'".
The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) celebrated their 30th anniversary last year and this concert in Bulgaria is extending the celebrations! 3 great British bands plus support from Bulgarian bands make this an Anglo/Bulgarian day to be remembered.
Dennis Stratton: ex Iron Maiden – One of the pioneers of the 2 guitar 'Melody Rock' synonymous with Iron Maiden today. The first album of the same name – 'Iron Maiden' voted best debut rock album of all time. Toured with Status Quo, Rory Gallagher and Mott the Hoople. Formed Lionheart and toured with Whitesnake, Saxon and Def Leppard. Joined Praying Mantis. Recording contract produced 10 albums. Dennis is now regularly touring Europe and South Africa with his "The Maiden Years" tour playing to fanatical fans. Dennis's band for Stara Zagora will be unique in that there will be 3 guitars, especially for us!
Praying Mantis are the greatest band of melodic hard rockers that Bulgaria has 'never' heard. Formed by brothers Tino and Chris Troy in the mid 70's, 'Praying Mantis' and 'Iron Maiden', spearheaded the NWOBHM movement. Their first album 'Time Tells No Lies' received much critical acclaim.
Following various projects, including 'Stratus' featuring Clive Burr (ex Maiden) & Bernie Shaw (now with Uriah Heep), Praying Mantis reformed in 1990 (for the 10th anniversary of NWOBHM) with Paul Di anno & Dennis Stratton. They recorded 'Live at last' which sparked a re-birth and followed up with a further 11 albums.
They are gaining new fans worldwide every day, especially since the release of the brilliant 'Sanctuary' which is receiving excellent reviews throughout the Rock and Metal world.
Bulgaria, prepare to be amazed!
Oliver Dawson Saxon is one of the hardest working "NWOBHM" bands touring the world throughout the last 10 years. Graham Oliver - voted 8th best guitarist by "KERRANG". Steve Dawson also voted 3rd best bass player by "KERRANG" magazine.
